Illustrations
As I
discovered, Wends are Celts. Therefore,
most illustrations which are accompanying these articles are taken
from various books on Celtic art. They show the advanced artistic and
scientific (metallurgical, mathematical and astronomical) knowledge
of our forebears, reached already in the Bronze Age, many thousands
of years ago.
1.
The Gold Ceremonial Hat of a Druid/Trowid.
The first illustration shows the gold ceremonial hat of a Wendish trowid/druid. It was discovered a few years ago in Switzerland, former Roman Raetia, home of the ancient Helwe(nd)ti. It was purchased by a Berlin museum, where it is presently on display. It is wrought so finely that today's goldsmiths, with all their sophisticated tools, cannot replicate its incredible fineness. Several other similar gold cone-hats had been discovered previously in various locations throughout Europe. Archaeologists thought them to be sword sheaths. Their real use was established only with this recent find in Switzerland, because it includes a well preserved original leather chin-strap.
This gold hat is incised with advanced astronomical information. This astronomical knowledge - and numberless other insights and accomplishments of our pagan forebears - was totally lost through the destruction by the early Christians of almost all pagan scientific and cultural achievements. They considered books written by pagans as the works of the devil. They burned millions of books kept in ancient European, Middle Eastern and North African universities and public libraries, as well as books kept in thousands of private libraries throughout the Roman Empire. In a library of a country home, in the vicinity of Herculaneum, covered by lava in the A.D. 79 Vesuvius' eruption, were recently discovered 1,200 books/scrolls written by one Roman author whose name was totally unknown to us! And not even a line remains of the 20 books Emperor Claudius wrote about Etruscans, his wife's people.
The particular astronomic and mathematical knowledge, incised on the gold hat, was rediscovered by Europeans only thousands of years later. This Bronze Age beaten gold conical hat, manufactured between 1,000 and 800 B.C., is described by German researchers as having 1,739 sun and half-moon symbols decorating its surface. This makes up a scientific code which corresponds almost exactly to the so-called Metonic Cycle. We are told that this cycle was “discovered” by the Greek astronomer Meton in 432 B.C. Meton had obviously learned it from Wendish sources, hundreds, if not thousands, of years after Wends were already well acquainted with it. It explains the relationship between moon and sun years. The symbols on the cone-hat are, in fact, a logarithmic table which enables the movements of the sun and the moon to be calculated in advance, and allows one to make long-term, empirical astronomical observations.

The Gold Cape of Mold
To show a more complete Bronze Age trowidical/druidical ceremonial outfit, I am adding the illustration of another gold decoration which formed part of their outfit, the so-called “Gold Cape of Mold”. It must have looked truly impressive, together with the gold conical hat, when worn by a druid or a druidess. I wonder what the Chief Druid's ceremonial outfit may have looked like. According to Roman writers, Chief Druids were kept in such high regard that - whenever they arrived at the scene of even the most passionately fought battles and commanded the warriors to stop fighting - they were immediately and invariably obeyed. Chief Druids were, it seems, more effective peacekeepers than our United Nations and the global policeman, USA, put together.
These Chief Druids were elected by local druids. They represented all the different Wendish tribes throughout Europe. As such, the Chief Druid held the supreme judicial power over all Wends on the continent – a true, voluntary, democratic, European Union. The famous Vercingetorix, who managed to unify Gallic/Wendish tribes to fight Caesar's army, seems to have been one of the last of these Chief Druids.
Vercingetorix is the understandably mangled Roman spelling of the rather complicated Wendish term Wrshni Redarich. Helpfully, Caesar tells us that Vercingetorix was the Gallic Chief Magistrate. Romans had no letter for the sh sound, they used s instead. They also lacked a letter for the ch- and j-sounds and used their x sign instead. Because in some Wendish dialects rs are almost inaudible, Romans left out the r in “redarich”. The sounds d and t are so similar that they are frequently interchangeable. For example, Romans spelled Dolentsi as Tolenti. The term redar still exists in modern Wendish, with the meaning of keeper of order, policeman. It is derived from the word red, order.
The Gold Cape of Mold was discovered in the British Isles, in Wales, at a place called Mold. The ancient Welsh people spoke a Wendish dialect, as did ancient Britons and Cornwallians. The name Cornwall is derived from Gorn(i) Walis, the Upper Wales, an area lying on higher ground. According to the most recent genetic analysis, inhabitants of Cornwall are supposed to have been the very first inhabitants of Great Britain, Ice Age fishermen, hunters and gatherers. The Cornwall dialect died out several hundred years ago. Recently, attempts have been made to revive it, on the basis of some remaining mediaeval manuscripts, written in its most recent, already perverted version. Surprisingly, there are a few Wendish speakers still left in Northumbria, at the other end of the Isle.
The Welsh language was much influenced by Latin, even more so than English. Welsh is now an almost Romance tongue, with an extensive pure Latin vocabulary. This is the result of numerous Roman legions having been permanently stationed in Wales throughout the entire 500-years long Roman presence in Britain. These legions were needed to keep the belligerent Welsh tribes pacified.
Nevertheless, the Welsh language retains much of its original Wendish. For example, in Welsh, ystwe still means mouth (Wendish: uste) and they still call a pig, puis, as do Wends. Their dialect has the typical “umlaut” vowels (the y in ystwe, is pronounced as ü), as do some modern Wendish dialects in central Europe, for instance the Prlek and Prekmurski dialects. Germanic languages have retained these Wendish umlaut-sounds when their new languages were formed, under the influence of their Frankish occupiers in the originally Wendish-speaking territories.

The Nebra Sky-Disk
The third illustration accompanying this instalment is the Nebra sky-disk, dating from about 2,000 B.C. It was discovered in Northern Germany, in the area where Wendish was spoken until recently. Today, most German Wends do not realize that even in places like Bremen and its surroundings, Wendish continued to be spoken as recently as the 17th century. The name Hamburg also shows a Wendish origin, as does Stockholm in Sweden. Ham is derived from holm, a hill in Wendish. On the coast of Latvia is a Wendish fortified town Ventspils, which means built by Wends in modern Latvian. The last Wendish speaker in Latvia died in the 1990s, as reported in a Toronto Latvian publication.
Germans refer to the Nebra sky-disk, poetically, as der geschmiedete Himmel, the forged heaven. It is an absolutely unique bronze disk about the size of a dinner plate. Its upper surface is covered in gold foil symbols of the sun or the full moon, a crescent moon, scattered stars, and gold foil strips at precise places on its perimeter. Its metal composition is northern European. There are signs which indicate a long period of use before it was deposited around 1,700 B.C., together with some daggers of Mediterranean design. Interestingly, it was found near Europe's oldest observatory in Goseck.
Much has been written and debated about the Sky Disk's origin and purpose. It was even compared with Achilles' famous shield, wrought by Hephaistos, incised with the sun, moon and the Pleiades, as described by Homer in the Iliad.
Physicists and archaeologists are amazed at its antiquity and perfect workmanship and are still debating its function. They are wondering if it might not be the oldest astronomical object in Europe. It is older than any Egyptian representation of stars, the oldest of of which dates from around 1,400 B.C. Scholars are perplexed: How could have people of Northern Europe developed an astronomy which rivalled that of later Babylonians, Greeks and Phoenicians?
We, who know that Wends had at that time lived not only throughout Europe, but also throughout the Middle East, even as far as America, do not find this advanced culture and accomplishments of Northern Europe at all puzzling or amazing. Our Wendish ancestors were thousands of years ago excelling in mathematics, physics, metallurgy, seamanship and astronomy. They loved to travel and explore and they were busily building megalithic structures, including astronomically oriented temples. They built them not only with stone, but frequently also with wood, wherever rocks were not easily accessible. Such wooden astronomical circles were discovered in Germany, in Holland, in Belgium, as well as in Alberta, Canada. The earlier engineered mounds and megaliths testify to an advanced knowledge of astronomy and sciences in general. We find them in Ireland, Wales and Orkneys, and wherever else Wends were exploring and settling in the farthest reaches of our globe.
Our Wendish forebears knew at least 8,000 years ago that our earth is a globe and how to cross all the oceans. This Golden Age of peaceful exploration and discovery ended with the “dark ages” brought upon Europe, and the rest of mankind, by the violent introduction and spread of the three aggressive, patriarchal, intolerant, Bible-based religions. All of them form the ideal basis for undemocratic, intolerant, totalitarian and colonial regimes. They introduced racism into this world and caused worldwide religious wars and world-wide exploitation. Communism and globalization are their two most recent secular offshoots.
After Christianity and Islam were firmly established, and the advanced pagan civilization finally destroyed, it took Europeans more than another 1500 years to rediscover Australia, Southern Africa and America. Only quite recently have a few of our scholars begun to realize that our history is out of touch with reality. That perhaps the “great” Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish and British Christian “explorers”,“discoverers” of “until then unknown continents”, and zealous converters of natives to Christianity - while stealing their land and gold – may have been only the most recent arrivals in places known and settled by our pagan forebears thousands of years earlier.
